Rating details. Sort order. Start your review of La zapatera prodigiosa. Feb 06, Andrea rated it liked it. Not my favorite by Garcia Lorca. Definitely not his best play. The shoemaker and his wife were somewhat annoying, but on the whole this was not a bad play. Jan 03, Ariana rated it really liked it. This was great to start off the semester before reading the three tragedies. At first I didn't like the main female character, but over the course of the play her character grew on me and by the end I was glad that all ended well.

Great story. Sep 04, Dani Gz Vega rated it really liked it. I love the zapatera, she's a sun that makes everything brighter. I read this book for school and ended up liking it more than I had expected. It's a super fast and easy read. May 05, Alba rated it it was ok. Now I know more about Spanish literary heritage, I feel like I was picking up on lots more of the references I otherwise would have missed, and understood a lot more of the vocab, which is very gratifying!

His murder by the Nationalists at the start of the Spanish civil war brought sudden international fame, accompanied by an excess of political rhetoric which led a later generation to question his merits; after the inevitable slump, his reputation has recovered largely with a shift in interest to the less obvious works. He must now be bracketed with Machado as one of the two greatest poets Spain has produced in the 20th century, and he is certainly Spain's greatest dramatist since the Golden Age.

La Zapatera Prodigiosa Fin De Fiesta by Garcia Lorca Federico

Garcia Lorca is perhaps the best known of modern Spanish writers, partly because of his brutal execution outside Granada by Franco's army at the beginning of the civil war, but primarily because of his genius for poetry and drama. In Lorca published Gypsy Ballads, which won him immediate success and is considered one of the most important volumes of poetry of the century. Attracted to the gypsies for their exotic folklore, sexual vitality, and their status as a group on the fringe of Spanish society, Lorca enlarged the gypsy people and their traditions to mythical proportions. Nature takes on human form while reality acquires a dreamlike quality in this powerful transformation of the world into a myth. The verse is colorful, rhythmic, dramatic, symbolic, and suggestive.
