This is probably a total double-whammy for any potential players, but since honesty is the most important thing in a gaming relationship, I'm admitting that I've both never played this game from any position, and as the title says, I've never DMed anything before. Really, if somebody is willing to take my DM hat, I'd gladly give you the position, but as it is since I doubt anybody else here has used this system before either, I'm going to try to do it myself.
So, with my introduction out of the way, I'll give you the game information. You can go ahead and look up the rules; I'm only really hoping to use the Core rules, so it shouldn't be TOO bad of a read, especially if you're already used to d20 games.
Bleach d20 Classless What 'type' or variant of game will it be i. What is the setting for the game eg. A regular Bleach setting, without any of the characters from the series though, and mostly based in Soul Society.
How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many? What's the gaming medium OOTS, chat, e-mail etc. Up to my players. What is the characters' starting status i. Level 1. Also want to point out, I'm doing "story leveling", so since there's no XP-costing crafting, XP will basically be disregarded entirely. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
Normal rules for Wealth apply; the money system is different than in other games. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. No races that would be adamantly against working with Soul Society, such as Hollows. I'll allow Quincies, as long as you don't mind working with Soul Society, obviously. What races, subraces, species, etc.
Will you allow homebrewed races or species? Homebrew on approval. All base races that you can justify getting along with Shinigami and of course, Shinigami being willing to use or work with them are allowed, with the specific exception of Hollows and Bounts; I won't allow those.
At all. I'm only going to allow the races from the core rulebook for now, and races that are normally "living" do not gain the Alive feat, as all characters in this game should be in soul form at all times unless they go to the human world in a Gigai. Standard Hit Point rules, 20 attribute points for character generation. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so? Bleach d20 Classless does not have an alignment system, so no worries there.
Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it? This game doesn't use classes, so no issue here. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
If it's PbP, I'll be doing the 'passive' rolls and non-optional rolls such as Reflex, Will, and Fortitude Saves to help progress the game faster.
Any checks you want to make actively, you'll roll on your own with the forum roller. If it's Skype or AIM, we'll either use honor system while you make rolls, or I'd like to actually see rolls.
We'll work that out if we end up doing one of those things. If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular i. Character background required, all backgrounds need the characters explicitly working with Soul Society. Also, I'd like a fairly lengthy background, if you can do so. Mostly roleplaying and hack-n-slash, maybe one or two puzzles but only very rarely if ever.
Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters? Core rulebook only, at least at first. This game, set in the year , will take place in a rather basic alternate universe to the Bleach series; things are mostly the same, up to and including the current specialties of each Division, but none of the characters from the show, and there are some big differences in history compared to the official Bleach universe.
Quincies are not, in this world, nearly extinct like they were thought to be in the show, nor have they formed the Wandenreich organization or anything with destructive intent, as they were never slaughtered by Soul Society.
Though they are definitely a small society, with numbers only barely breaching fifteen hundred worldwide and over a thousand of those being focused in Chiyoda, Tokyo, they are certainly not on the brink of extinction. Though the Quincies living outside Chiyoda are generally independent, the majority of Quincies living in the ward are part of an organization that works with Soul Society as an emergency response team to defend people from Hollows without slaying them until Shinigami can arrive to finish the work.
Therefor, they are on cooperative terms with the Shinigami, with trade of spiritual items and the like being common between the two organizations with the Quincy organization being known collectively as Kreuzzugphonixe. Fourteen hundred years prior to the start of the campaign, a war ended between the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, which had gone on for the past twenty years prior, though it was quite one-sided as Soul Society had no way to enter Hueco Mundo for any counteroffensives.
The majority of the war consisted of millions of Hollows suddenly converging and acting tactically in a direct offense against Soul Society, and being led be unknown beings who appeared to be similar to Shinigami that had the incredible strength to kill Captains, indeed nearly resulting in the destruction of Soul Society. After twenty years, however, the Soul Society managed to beat back the opposing forces, thus "winning" the war and giving the Soul Society all the time since then to rebuild, though Hollows have been more able to enter Rukongai ever since.
In order to respond to this, the Shinigami have a fourteenth, "mixed" Division now, the Rukongai Division as it's unofficially called. This is basically a division for the spiritually powerful who have died and gone to Soul Society whose powers are unsuitable for training as a Shinigami, such as former superhumans and Quincies. This Division works alongside the Shinigami to ensure that Rukongai stays safe, due to the fact that Hollow attacks are quite common now.
Lastly, as a more minor note, there are no known methods for how to get into Hueco Mundo, and no records are available of anybody ever succeeding in getting there. The 12th Division has basically become inactive in outside affairs at this point in time, as the entirety of their resources have been devoted to trying to find a way to successfully open a gate there for almost four hundred years. Things have been relatively peaceful in the Soul Society and the world of the living for the past few hundred years even despite the increase in Hollow activity in Rukongai thanks to skillfull managing by the Shinigami, but things have begun to take a strange and violent turn.
Recently, reports came in and were made public that a few spiritually aware indiviuals and a platoon of Shinigami spotted two giant jellyfish flying over the countryside way over in Toronto, despite the usual lack of very much spiritual activity in that part of the world. Also, on the same day in the Soul Society, Hollows began clustering in a single spot, before suddenly attacking and destroying the 68th district of Rukongai before Soul Society had a chance to respond before disappearing.
When a group was sent to investigate, they were never reported back, and not long later, a group of Hollows managed to slip through the gates into Seireitei. Despite the fact that they were quickly dispatched with no casualties, the fact that they could get past the walls surrounding the Seireitei was extremely alarming to the authorities, and now, several days later, the Court Guard have now formed a small unit with Shinigami recruits and new members of the 14th Division in order to scout out the area where South District 68 used to be and gather intelligence on the Hollows there.
Whatever is going on, they needed to make sure not to send anyone too valuable to lose. Little did they know that soon these new recruits would become assets as well So yeah, that's how you guys are to come together. Player characters can know each other beforehand or not at your discretion, though I don't guarantee I'll accept all players involved in your backstory if you do decide to have some pre-knowing, so keep that in mind.
Only when one becomes the juncture of a meeting of two forces can one begin to understand either Now, the only problem is that I'm more likely to be on board for a PbP game ; never used Skype and the likes, and it's probable I'm on a whole different timezone compared to you or other players.
Plus, you won't have to endure my accent, only my grammar mistakes. As for a character concept Well, shinigami, obviously!
I'll figure out the rest once I figure out the rules. Fluctuat nec mergitur. Likely going in as a Shinigami, although i may go Quincy once i refresh myself on the lore. And I saw, and behold Re: First Time DMing: Bleach d20 Classless wth never heard of this somebody post a link and I learn it by the end of the day and will play something!!!!!! Spoiler: Map for Mercenaries.
Skype, PbP, etc. Re: First Time DMing: Bleach d20 Classless This is a non-profit site for a d20 system, so I figure it's totally cool to post the link to the game's site but if it isn't, I'm sure I'll get a PM from a mod and remove this at a moment's notice.
Links to the PDFs of the rules on the left. I'm only really intending to use the top two since, as I've mentioned, I have basically no experience with the system and you guys probably won't make it to Epic levels for the first campaign anyway, but I'm still going to be using those rules for extremely powerful characters such as the Captain-Commander. Manga spoilers in the rules! Just sayin'. Also, there's a Kido system but no actual spells made for the game yet it's still in production, though the core book is complete in every way, even having Kido feats, aside from not having a spell list , however, I have a potential spell list available that I made by editing somebody else's Originally Posted by HolyCouncilMagi.
