Good day i am completely new to AVR's and will be placing my order to start playing around with them 2 morrow. There is one thing that i am not to shure about. The place that i will be ordering my atmega's from have 2 "versions" of the atmega8 one is dble the price from the other 1. I have read in the datasheet that the "16PU" does not contain led pB. As the PU is cheaper go for that and you are supposedly doing a favour for the environment at the same time.
PS Shame you don't have access to mega88 - it's a much nicer more modern AVR chip design probably cheaper too as it's made on a smaller fabrication process. You need a way to program the avr I think buy is less risky But the PonyProg and AvrDude programmer sites have the schematic for a simple parallel port programmer that is easy to assemble. Thank u Clawson ti the cheaper 1 it is. Bobgardner i will be using the MKII they are cheap enough but my boss has a STK at home that i can borrow when he is not using it hehe.
Yes, fridge, if you can get Mega88 then I would get those instead of Mega8. It is like half-a-generation newer, and has more toys especially for low-power operation. Just had a look i cant get a hold of the mega88 or the dragons in this county The engineers in this country are backwards and they prefer using pic and motarola i hate both so the Suppliers rather look after them selfs and the older gen engineers that are teaching bad habbits to the newer ones.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.
